Chuck-a-luck

What is Chuck-A-Luck Casino Game?

Chuck-a-luck, also known as birdcage, is a game of chance played with three dice. It is derived from grand hazard and both can be considered a variant of sic bo, which is a popular casino game, although chuck-a-luck is more of a carnival game than a true casino game. The game is sometimes used as a fundraiser for charity.

Chuck-a-luck also called sweat-cloth, dice game of medieval origin that is related to grand hazard. It is played with three dice and a layout numbered from one to six upon which the players place their bets. The banker then rolls the dice by turning over an hourglass-shaped wire cage in which they are contained. The payoffs are usually 1 to 1 on singles, 2 to 1 on pairs, and 3 to 1 on triples appearing on the dice; for example, if a player places a bet on six and two sixes appear on the dice, the player is paid off at 2 to 1. The game can be found in some American and European casinos and gambling houses. The house edge, or mathematical advantage, averages 7.5 percent.

How to play?

As the dealer turns the cage end over end, the players place wagers on specific outcomes of the dice. When all bets are placed, the dealer stops the cage allowing all three dice to rest on the bottom. The outcome of their position determines the payouts. The possible bets that can be made are:

  • Single Number – Players can place a bet on any one number from 1-6. If any of the three dice show the number selected, the bet wins. The payout doubles if the number shows on two dice and triples if it shows on all three
  • Triples – A bet that the roll will be any set of triples (example, 3, 3, 3 or 5, 5, 5)
  • High – A bet that the combined roll will equal 11 or higher (loses if the roll is triples)
  • Low – A bet that the combined roll will equal 10 or lower (again, loses on triples)
  • Field – A bet that the combined roll will be outside of the 8 – 12 range
  • Odd – A bet that the total will be an odd number
  • Even – A bet that the total will be an even number
  • Specific total – Players can wager that the total on the dice will equal any number from 4 – 17

Rules of the Game:

Chuck-a-luck is played with three standard dice that are kept in a device shaped somewhat like an hourglass that resembles a wire-frame bird cage and pivots about its centre. 고스톱 The dealer rotates the cage end over end, with the dice landing on the bottom.

Wagers are placed based on possible combinations that can appear on the three dice. The possible wagers are usually fewer than the wagers that are possible in sic bo and, in that sense, chuck-a-luck can be considered to be a simpler game. In the simplest variant, betters place stakes on a board labelled 1-6. They receive a 1:1 payout if the number bet on appears once, a 2:1 payout if the number appears twice, and a 3:1 payout if the number is rolled all 3 times. In this respect, the basic game resembles Crown and anchor, but with numbered dice instead of symbols.
